Types of Screen

The development of mobile phone / handphone technology need not doubt, one of which is in the display (screen). Here we will learn about the difference types of screen used in mobile phones. From Monochrome (1 color, Black), Passive-matrix (stn, CSTN),
Active-matrix (TFT, TFD), UFB Samsung, and OLED.

* Monochrome
Screen LCD (Liquid Crystal Displays) is the type we often see on Calculator, digital watches, and mobile phone (used to). Liquid crystal can be manipulated by electric current, so that they change form. How monochrome works on mobile phone, is to block the light that will come out. One of the advantages of monochrome which power consumption is lower than the other. And after many years, the mobile display width of the day, color, and detail. Monochrome screen, so at this time period is considered to be lagging. But still there is a flip mobile phone still use this type of Monochrome.
* Passive-Matrix Color Display
Most of the first color screen mobile phone to use this passive-matrix technology. This technology uses a system of wires in the form of vertical and horizontal to provide a power / enlighting a pixel. This type of screen is cheaper than the TFT (will be discussed later). But have any weaknesses of its little low response, Quality of look is not optimum when compared with the light type active-matrix screen. Using the passive-matrix technology, among others: STN - Super Twisted Nematic and CSTN - Color Super Twisted Nematic
* Active Matrix Color Display
Active matrix uses technology TFT (Thin Film Transistor) that is generally used for notebooks. TFT screen puts transistor at each screen pixel which is capable to on and switched off individually, so that the image display is sharp, bright, and very fast response. But TFT has its weakness that is more expensive and more power battery comsumption. Other types of screen including active-matrix is a TFD (Thin Film Diode), the same place with the diode in each pixel screen. TFD technology combines the image quality and speed of response of the TFT is very good, with low power consumption and low cost of stn.
* UFB Samsung
UFB (Ultra Fine & Bright), an LCD technology that was created and introduced by Samsung in year 2002. Can operate only with 3mW which need less power consumption than TFT. This course will extend the battery resistance. Mobile phones that use the
type UFB screen size will have a more sparse.
* OLED Display
OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) is also known as LEP (Light-Emitting Polymer) and the OEL (Organic Electro Luminescence). Is a new generation display technology that consists of dots of organic polymer that emit light when charged with electricity. When compared with LCD, OLED display has advantages over the thin, light, light, fast, cheap and little more power consumption (due to not need a light background). The only weakness of this screen is difficult to see if you are under the light source like the sun.

Resume of all types :

Monochrome :
- Low power consumption
- 1 color, Black
Stn & CSTN :
- Cheap manufactured
- Minimum power consumption
- Less than optimal image quality
- The response is rather slow
- Poor light
TFT :
- Good quality picture
- Display light & sharp
- Rapid response
- More power consumption
- Expensive
TFD :
- Good quality picture
- Display light & sharp
- Rapid response
- Minimum power consumption
- Cheap
UFB Samsung :
- Over thin
- Better image quality
- Bright & sharp display
- Rapid response
- Very minimum power consumption (3mW)
OLED :
- Thin
- Lightweight
- Light
- Cheap
- Rapid response
- Minimum power consumption
- Difficult to see if you are under the light source such as sun
